Österängens Konsthall 24 January - 8 March

Anyone who has ever visited Scandinavia will recognize the unique light, the overwhelming atmosphere and beauty of the landscape. The relationship between light and space in the Nordic countries has inspired many artists. This light and these landscapes also plays a significant role in the paintings of Swedish artist Malin Persson (b. 1978). Her contemporary paintings are dominated by fundamental relationships within the landscape; where the aspect of treacherous beauty also plays a role. Her oil paintings depict dark Scandinavian forests and lakes, which she often covers with an abstract layer of painted diamonds or circles. This paradox of figurative and abstract imagery allows the viewer to reinterpret the landscape over and over again. Malin Persson has lived and worked in Amsterdam for over 25 years, but was born and raised in Gränna, Sweden. She and her family spent their summer on a small island in nerby Lake Bunn. Her memories from the island perpetually inspires new motifs and works. In conjunction of the exhibition, Österängens konsthall has produced a film, shot in the Netherlands and Sweden, which provides an in-depth review of Persson’s artistry.

långsam tystnad
över vattenytan

utan vare sig början
eller slut

eller horisonter
bortom det som berättas

drömmande
tillbakablickande

mer än ett kvardröjande
minne

det finns en sjö
som flyter genom mig
